Alexander Nemesh: “The most effective monetization strategy for eSports team is to sell media rights”

One of the speakers at our conference is CS:GO team manager at HellRaisers club which made it to the Top 20 CS:GO line-ups. eSPORTconf Ukraine press service talked to Alexander Nemesh about last year’s team forming, plans of the organization and effective monetization methods for eSports teams.

L.T.: Hello, Alexander! How long have you been in eSports? How did you start?

A.N.: Hello! I consider myself a young representative of Ukrainian eSports. A year and a half ago, in August 2015, my friend invited me to participate in one of HellRaisers projects. In six months HellRaisers CEO Maxim Bednarski offered me the position of a CS:GO team manager and I agreed. I’ve been successfully working here for one year.

L.T.: The club has a very strong Counter-Strike team. How did you manage to form it?

A.N.: Modern line-up was formed during the last year. 2016 was the year of drastic personnel changes. Several players and a trainer were replaced in our team, we got an analyst.

At times we played with stand-ins, tried adding different players to our team. But it’s in the past now. By means of experiments we formed the line-up you know today.

The last determinant decision was to add the fifth player – Hungarian eSportsmen Bence "DeadFox" Böröcz. We decided to stop at this stage. I guess you know that HellRaisers club is famous for its ability to let talented players go. It won’t happen this time. So, get ready for a new team and a new club.

L.T.: Is HellRaisers club planning to revive Dota 2 and Hearthstone teams?

A.N.: Yes, we always monitor teams and players in these disciplines. Except for reviving Dota2 and Hearthstone teams, we also consider the opportunity of forming teams in other popular disciplines. Negotiations are already in progress with some teams. As soon as we come to final decision, you will find the information on our pages in social networking websites.

L.T.: Which methods of monetization does the team use? Which are the most effective ones?

A.N.: In a nutshell, there are the following methods:

  • Sale of media rights (advertising);
  • Interest on tournament prizes;
  • Royalty for using the brand, the logotype, etc.;
  • Profit from sale of official uniform with team logos.

The most effective method of monetization is sale of media rights. It can bring up to 70% of total profit.

L.T.: What are you planning to speak about during eSPORTconf Ukraine?

A.N.: I am going to speak about situation on global eSports market and Ukraine’s position on it. I will also talk about its dynamics and opportunities of teams, organizations, investors and partners.
